The Canadian launch of the smart fortwo receives the 2005 CAA Pyramid Award of Recognition (February 21, 2005)
Mercedes-Benz Canada's smart Division received today the highly-respected Pyramid Award® of Recognition from the Canadian Automobile Association of Canada (CAA) for the Canadian launch of the smart fortwo cdi.

For 2005, the CAA judges chose to bestow this Award of Recognition to Mercedes-Benz Canada for their vision in launching the smart fortwo, both a safe and innovative concept, to the Canadian market.

On top of being 85% recyclable and the most fuel efficient non-hybrid vehicle, CAA’s decree was based on the fact that the smart fortwo is "safe, innovative, eco-friendly and thought-provoking". The CAA also stated that the smart fortwo "combines versatility, manoeuvrability and utility to appeal to many consumers looking for a compact, safe and efficient mode of transportation."

President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada, Marcus Breitschwerdt proudly accepted the award and said, "The new revolutionary smart fortwo coupes and cabriolets cdi have captured the Canadian public’s hearts and minds by offering them vehicles that masterfully combine fuel-efficiency, safety, ecological leadership and forward-thinking engineering in a cool and attractive package. From the on-going and extremely positive reaction in the last year since we announced the vehicle would come to Canada to the actual feedback from the more than 1,300 customers driving the smart fortwo today, we're equally pleased to acknowledge that these absolutely echo CAA's conclusion."

He further added, "We very much appreciated receiving this award from the CAA, a respected and trusted organization working for the benefit of Canadian motorists and its 4.6 million members."
